Important new requirements for confirming identity
Effective from 30 April 2012, JPs must take additional steps to identify a person who is making a NSW statutory declaration or affidavit.
The additional steps are detailed in Ruling 003, which has been approved by the Attorney General. Every JP should read and follow the Ruling carefully. A copy of Ruling 003 was sent to all current JPs throughout March 2012, either by mail or post, together with Issue No 2 of JP News.

New look JP website
The JP website has been re-designed and new features have been added, including an online quiz about JP functions and a listing of scheduled JP services available across NSW.
SMS to JPs
The Department of Attorney General and Justice is sending SMS reminders to JPs about the new requirements for confirming identity.
However some JPs have received an SMS text message from a company that sells stamps. The Department does not endorse stamp suppliers and did not authorise those particular SMS messages. There is no obligation for JPs to purchase a stamp in order to meet the requirement of the Oaths Regulation 2011. For more information, read our Frequently Asked Questions.
